Santhosa Therapeutic Yoga
Santhosa Therapeutic Yoga is a practice that integrates the principles of yoga and Ayurveda to promote holistic healing and well-being.
The term “Santhosa” is derived from one of the Niyamas in Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga, meaning “to live in contentment and not seek to fulfill the desires of the senses continuously.”
The practice is led by Shirani, who has gained qualifications from the Australian College of Classical Yoga (Melbourne Victoria) and Kashmir Shaivism School of Yoga (Dharamshala – India). She emphasises the inter-connectedness of yoga and Ayurveda in her teachings.
Shirani has studied both disciplines extensively, drawing inspiration from renowned yogis such as Sri Krishnamacharya, B.K.S. Iyengar, A.G. Mohan, and Swami Sivananda. Shirani’s approach combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, aiming to align the body, mind, and spirit through therapeutic yoga sessions.
After an Ayurvedic consultation, Shirani will make recommendations as to which therapeutic yoga class a client should attend. Her classes do not exceed more than three persons at a time, and some classes are tailored to suit individual needs. It’s targeted healing.
The philosophy of Santhosa encourages individuals to embrace contentment and gratitude, fostering a sense of inner peace and balance in daily life.
